PGESCo earns IAPWS associate membership signifying Egypt as the first country in Africa and MENA region to unanimously obtain it

Egypt becomes the first country in Africa and the MENA region to obtain the membership of international association of the properties of water and steam.

Out of two decades-plus of continuous developing based on science and research, building a national capacity in the field of the properties of water and steam, Power Generation Engineering and Services Co. “PGESCo” earns IAPWS associate membership after sponsoring Egypt application for joining this reputable international association.

By the approval of this application; Egypt became IAPWS associate member and has a non-voting seat in the IAPWS executive since 16 September 2016; during this committee annual meeting held in Dresden, Germany.

Also, It was approved that Eng. Moataz Khalifa (lead of water treatment technologies group in PGESCo) will act as the Egyptian National committee representative as well as member of power cycle chemistry (PCC) working group.

Joining the activities of IAPWS will allow PGESCo to participate in all association activities and contribute in valuable scientific production and technical guidelines.

The benefits of joining the IAPWS will be expanded after establishment of the Egyptian national committee and obtaining full membership in the IAPWS. This Egyptian national committee shall aim to building the national capacity in the field of properties of water and steam significantly improving the power generation industry and other related industries. 

The international association of the properties of water and steam (IAPWS) is an international non-profit scientific association commenced its activities in 1929 and includes members from 21 countries with objectives to advance the knowledge of the properties of water, steam, and aqueous systems, particularly those properties and guidance of industrial importance, and to make the knowledge available to engineers

and scientists all over the world. IAPWS includes four working groups and one subcommittee, covering the following areas:

  • Thermophysical Properties of Water and Steam  
  • Physical Chemistry of Aqueous Systems
  • Power Cycle Chemistry  
  • Industrial Requirements and Solutions  
  • Subcommittee on Seawater

The current Members are Britain & Ireland, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, Scandinavia (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden), and the United States, plus Associate Members Argentina & Brazil, Australia, Egypt, France, Greece, , and Switzerland.
